My family is multicultural and my children are have been raised to respect both their Indian and Hispanic culture and heritage. With much of their Indian family in India, we have visited often to see family and learn more about that side of the family. My son has been there three times, my daughter twice. We visit temples, celebrate holidays, and listen to Carnatic music (South Indian Classical music) at home. They are proud to be Indian, writing about Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi for their cultural fair. And of course, they have had the pleasure of getting dressed in many fine Indian outfits.
For the WordPress photo challenge, I choose to show how my children have grown, dressed traditionally and learning about their culture through the years.
Through the years, they have grown both in size and maturity, but also in understanding and love for their culture. It makes me proud to be raising such worldly children who love and respect all cultures. It’s a growth I hope to continue to see through the years.
